Greetings from ASA Northern Nationals

Hello everyone! I don’t have a lot to say, but I figured I ought to check in anyway since I’m currently in Mankato, Minnesota for ASA Northern Nationals. I’m here with the Lake County Glory 14U team, so if you’re here too stop by and say hello.

I was actually surprised by the small number of teams in the tournament. There are only 14 teams at the 14U A level. Normally you expect 30 to 60 teams at a tournament like this. Not sure where everyone is.

Maybe it’s the economy. Maybe it’s the location, being so far North. Maybe it’s the large number of post-season tournaments these days that are drawing teams away that would normally come here. Whatever it is, the numbers seem to be down.

Oh well. It should make for a fun week and some good competition nonetheless. Wish us luck!

  1. Ken,I’d bet the culprit for the low turn out for 12A and 14A northern Nats is the location of the class A national national. Illinios and Indiana being in the same region and only separated by a few hundered miles I wouldn’t be surprised to find that a fair number of team that would nomally go to a Northern have chosen to try thier luck at the big show and square up with the Cali and Southern teams. We thought about it but had a scheduling conflict that ruled out an ASA national of any flavor this year.

  2. I agree with Bishop. Here in Moline there are 156 teams at the A Nationals. I also agree with you Ken in the fact that there are “other” nationals that take away from ASA. I believe USSSA is much more player friendly and enjoyable.Good Luck Ken…
